Anna Munk (b. 1994, Aarhus; DK) lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Munks graduated from the MFA programme at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Copenhagen; DK) (2016-2022) and has completed additional study in classical drawing at Studio Escalier (Paris; FR).
Combining techniques of classical painting with the premises of the modern beauty industry, Munk’s paintings draw on a wide range of formal references and incorporate such diverse materials as: eyeshadow, rouge, wax, silver leaf, torn fabrics, oils, and acrylics.
The artist’s muted palette and gestural mark-making, point as much towards negative space as to delineated forms. Creating clashes, between traditional painting and cosmetics, romantic landscapes and minimalism – the material logic of Munk’s paintings mirror an anachronistic and decadent logic in contemporary culture.
