Trude Viken | Veiled in Pink: Vester Farimagsgade 6, 1606 København V
Current exhibition
Overview
OTP Copenhagen is delighted to announced ‘Veiled in Pink’ a solo exhibition by Norwegian painter Trude Viken marking the artist's second solo exhibition with the gallery.
Featuring groups of new oil paintings, the exhibition explores the facade of personal appearance and the ways in which composed behaviour and cosmetic enhancements are often used to obscure complex emotional states and experiences. Inspired by the artist’s interest in family dynamics, the construction of femininity as well as depicting her subjects “inside out”, the show presents a nuanced perspective on the way in which we selectively present out inner lives to the world around us.
“There is a unique tension or balance in compositions with three figures. Three is a number that represents a sense of imperfection or complexity. Two people can have a simple relationship, the introduction of a third person brings an element of conflict, harmony or balance – depending on the situation. It fascinates me that three people relationships often feel unstable”. — Trude Viken
Trude Viken (b. 1969, Lødingen; NO) is a painter who lives and works in Olso, Norway. Viken’s interest in the figure has consistently been informed by a frank and honest recognition of those feelings and experiences that people are often uncomfortable to share with others. Having previously worked as a psychiatric nurse before becoming a full-time artist, Viken’s first-hand understanding of human vulnerability is compounded by an interest in the ways that contemporary culture masks particular feelings and experiences.
